Meeting in the Squidco Studio during July 2020, Person of Western North Carolina joined CHANGES TO blind for an extended improvisation focused on environmental elements and aviary excursions. The results us three contiguous "tape" pieces composed by Person and manipulated in real time, along with CHANGES TO blind performing on a Korg MS-2000, live effected percussion, bird whistles & calls, SunVox synthesizer, and samples.

Person of Western North Carolina brought three sketches for this piece

The first is a juxtaposition of sound sources to create a sense of space that allows for complex rhythms and structures to exist that make for the feel of the first section that being of the uncertainty that was felt at the beginning of this year with the COVID-19 crisis.

The second structure allows for the tumbling rhythms to dig deep into the heart of lies and false promises that were felt over the summer of 2020. This sketch emphasizes with the sense of stress and confusion that is preformed by stochastic contact mics arrangements and specifically selected field recordings.

In the final sketch we find ourselves in a whirlwind of mangled pieces of manipulated recordings that harken to the present where nothing is certain. All recordings were recorded over the past months of 2020 and help to illustrate the sense of tense emotions that are almost universally felt in these troubled times.

This recording by Person and CTb is presented as recorded, with no additional overdubs. Editing was performed to bring out the nuance of various elements of the recording

CTb was borne in Syracuse, NY in the mid 80s. Originally the trio of phil zampino, Mortimer deSquid & Heraldo deSquid, only zampino survives. Wires and boxes were dragged about and throttled, moving to Manhattan in 1992 as improvisation krept into the mix. Now in Wilmington, NC the kurrent state of affairs involves exposition, as CTb airs its dirty underdrawers for the listener's disdain. ... more
